Financial Report: “The Green Room” netted $2,270.00. See attached for complete report. Kathleen moved to accept report, Ken second carried
Discussion: Ken asked if YPDG would consider more productions per year. Armando said the short play festival and the Murder Mystery fundraiser round out the season with the regular 2 stage plays. Due to our small membership this is all we are able to accomplish.
Signing Powers: Persons with signing power are Kathleen Schenker, Ted Girrard, Bruce Rowland and Anne Fiddick. Kathleen moved to have Patti Grand removed as a designated signer. Patricia seconded. Carried
Play Writing Competition: Brian is working on the application for August 1, 2019 deadline for the competition open to BC writers. Armando is compiling the list of schools and associations that will receive the information about the contest. Brian wrote the information for YPDG’s website. There was a discussion about the $40.00 entry fee as the judges will receive $30.00 for each play they read. Armando will work out the budget with Ladysmith Arts Council who will share a large portion of the responsibility for publicity.
Murder Mystery Fundraiser: Brian described the murder mystery, “Murder is no Jive” that will be performed February 9, 2019 along with a school lunch type dinner menu. Moira Fox is arranging the dinner plans. Groups are already reserving tickets. There is a need for a meeting just after the New Year to discuss costs and how much to charge for tickets.
Spring 2019 Production Report: Armando announced he has chosen the four cast members for “Outside Mullingar” and they will start read throughs in January. Vonda Croissant will do costumes, Erik Tully to design lights, Lorne Kraft to design sound, Eleanor Thompson and Moira Fox will produce. Rebecca Burrows agreed to create poster and program and she will also consider being the ASM. Needed are a stage manager, props/set dresser, Front of House person, sound operator and light operator. Armando said he will contact Ray Hardy about operating the lights and Lorne said he’ll try to get a sound operator.
Lighting Board: Erik got information and a quote about a ETC Nomad which is a small device and is run through a laptop. It costs $643.00 and YPDG will look for a laptop donation or purchase one. VIU is going to use this same system and Erik will work with them and learn more about the operation before making the final decision. Ted moved to allow Erik to purchase the equipment with a $2,000.00 cap (if no lap top donation comes through) once he is satisfied that it is right for YPDG. Ken seconded carried
January 22, 2019 Play Reading: Bruce Rowland suggested a play to read titled “Tamarack”, written by Ed Kuhn in Nova Scotia. The club agreed to read this play in January.
