President’s statement by Armando DosSantos:
Thank you for coming today and for your support this past year. This year, odd as it seemed to be at times, we managed to come out of it much better prepared for the coming season. Our issues about our rental situation with the hall has been resolved and we have continued to keep a careful eye on our finances. Savings have been made in our advertising as far as printing is concerned.
We had to cancel the last week of the 2017 fall production for a cast member’s family emergency, which was no help, and also had to cancel the 2018 Spring production because of casting problems. Big as those issues were, we had many more good ones such as in the fall of 2017 Brian March applied for a grant from NRD and we were successful in receiving almost $5,000.00 to buy 6 new LED spotlights. We hope in the fall of 2018 we will be able to get another grant to replace the lighting board.
Our Murder Mystery fundraiser in February was very successful thanks to Moira and Jim Fox, Brian March and a large supporting cast. Also, our short play festival attracted good audiences and between these two events we netted approximately $3,100.00.
A great help this year was a gift bequeathed to us of $7,500.00. We can say at this point financially we have some room to breathe and grow.
For this coming season we have the fall production already in rehearsals and the 2019 Spring and Fall productions already mapped out. We can expect a 2019 brochure by mid September in time for our Fall production program.
Besides hopefully replacing our lighting board and acquiring our final 3 LED spotlights, we have just realized that we need a new sound board. We hope to have this installed in time for the Fall production.
One of the things that will be an immediate priority is replacing and/or fixing the stage curtains as they are in a sore state.
For this coming year we will continue to pursue partnerships with other groups where possible. We now have an arrangement with Crimson Coast Dance Company to carry each others flyers in programs. Another joint venture will be with the Ladysmith Arts Council which is a call for a play writing competition. This of course will have to be approved at the July meeting.
I am looking forward to the coming year knowing that artistically and financially we are on the right path.
